F-16 1:5 Scale Addendums

Airframe Directive (A.D.)
And other helpful notes

Canopy Adjustment
(8/2022)

The first thing you want to do is make sure the Servo moves the Canopy Arm to it's full downwards position. This will allow the forward locks to move as far forward as possible.
After you make sure the Canopy Arm is moving to its full downward position, remove the clevis from the back of the Locking Pin and allow the Locking Pin to slide all the way forward. You want to mark this with a color that is easy for you to see. I use a Red or Black sharpie to do this. This will become your visual reference to make sure the Locking Pins are completely closed. Now, hook the linkage back up and close the canopy and check your Locking pins.
As you can see when fully closed my Locking Pins are not all the way forward. I couldn't pull the Canopy back open, but they are not fully locked. So, lift the Canopy back up, remove the clevis from the Locking Pin and unthread the clevis to add length to the Actuating wire until the Lock moves to its full locking position. I do one side at a time until i get both sides locking perfectly.
This is the Canopy Locking Pins after adjustment. The spot that you marked with color should now touch once again as it did when the Clevis was off.

Canopy Locking Addendum
(11/2017)

Check that the servo arm does not stop short of full travel because it is touching the aft frame work. If it does, use a dremel carbide cutter to make a notch as shown. After the notch is made, you can see that the cable operated locking pins can move a bit further forward. This improves the locking pin engagement.

Canopy Retention
(10/2017)

Accumulation of manufacturing tolerances can lead to slight variances in the end products.

Cockpit Tub

Before Modification After Modification

Trim off the small tabs at forward end of plastic cockpit tub. This will ensure that the tub does not slide aft and disengage the retention hooks.

See other addendums relative to the canopy operation.

Canopy
(02/2017)

Apply Z-42 (blue thread locker) to the exposed end of these 2 bolts. This precaution will keep the bolts from backing out of the aluminum fittings as the canopy is operated open and close.

Canopy
(10/2016)

Important Note: Do not rely on the servo operated latching mechanism to fully hold the Canopy down and locked. Always manually push down on the front of the Canopy Hatch as it lowers to insure that the 2 locking pins are fully engaged.

U.A.T. Check
(10/2016)

Inspect the U.A.T. to insure that there is clearance between the Main Wheel in the up position and the U.A.T.
It may be necessary to shim the U.A.T. up about 1/4”.

Patty, Rob, and Heather,

Here’s a pic of my 1/5 F-16. It has a Swiwin 240 for power, and is guided by an IX20SE. I absolutely love the airplane. It is by far, the best flying scale airplane I have ever owned. Thank you so much for offering such world class airplanes, and providing some of the best support in the business! I’m grateful.

Hi Patty,

I finally got to fly my 1/5 F-16 project I have been working on. Flew perfect with no trim needed! Look forward to flying it at KY.

Seth

Dave Davis from Sarasota, Florida with his new 1:5 F-16.

Kelly Rohrbach from Montana with his new 1:5 F-16. He is using a JR28X for a solid link, the "BEAST" Swiwin 300 for power and a Cortex Pro to smooth out the bumpy air. Kelly says "Airplane Flies Amazing!!!! We logged 12 flights at the Tucson Jets event including the maiden!".

Bruce Pennington from North Dakota recently visited BVM to take delivery of his new F-16 1:5 scale.

He is very happy with the scheme and can't wait to maiden it at Florida Jets 2022.

Chris Zonio with his BVM F-16 1:5 scale is ThunderBird's approved at the Greater Binghamton Airshow.

A win for BVM ;)

Took the 1/5 scale F-16 to the Warbirds over Roseville event this weekend.. 1/5 F-16 took first place :)

Andre Torres had spent time helping put additional detail, weathering streaks, etc which made all of the small details, rivets, etc pop.. it was well received!

Aircraft flew amazing! Many thanks for all the hard work which goes into these amazing models you provide!
